Costume Events

Costume events are a mainstay of the AOD convention experience. In the Masquerade, costumers display their finest costumes and present skits hoping to win the coveted "Best of Show" award.

Costume Guidelines and Dress Code

All attendees at AOD are welcome to wear costumes during the con. However, there are a few guidelines that must be followed.
  1. All costumes must be decent to wear in public. When choosing your costume, please keep in mind that there will be young children present both at the convention and in the hotel.
  2. All props must meet with the convention's weapons restrictions. If you are unsure whether or not your prop is acceptable, please check with the security staff.
  3. Please refrain from reckless use of props. If a problem is reported to the convention staff, your prop will be confiscated.
  4. Because the hallways are narrow, we ask that costumes with large pieces (such as wings, armor, etc.) not be worn in the halls. They block traffic and create a fire hazard. We ask instead that you consider saving these costumes for the Masquerade event.
  5. If, at any time, convention staff finds your costume inappropriate in any way, you will be politely asked to change out of the costume. An inappropriate costume is one that fails to meet decency standards, blocks hallways, or causes hotel staff or other attendees to have valid complaints. Failure to comply with a staff request will result in the revocation of your badge. Your registration will not be refunded, and you will be escorted from the convention grounds.

Masquerade

The Masquerade is a staple of your AOD convention experience. Masquerade is a costume contest in which costumers display their finest costumes and present skits hoping to win the coveted "Best of Show" award. This event is scheduled for 7:30pm on Saturday January 30, 2010.

Hall Costuming Awards

This year during AOD staff will be giving awards for hall costumes.

Members of the Cosplay Staff will be taking pictures and collecting some information on people wearing costumes around the convention. They will ask you for your name, the character you are dressed as and what the source is, and optionally you may give them your cellphone number or email (so we can contact winners).
  • Attendees may enter as many costumes as they are able to.
  • Costumes that win awards at the Masquerade will not be eligible for Hall Costuming awards.
  • Cosplay Staff may not enter.
The winners will be chosen by AOD Staff. Awards will be given at 3:00 pm on Sunday January 31, 2010. If you are not present and we have no way to contact you, you forfeit your award; the next winner present or we have contact information for will receive the award.

Cosplay Portraits

AOD is proud to bring, for the first time, a Cosplay Photo stage to our attendees. Professional lighting, backdrops, and other equipment will be available for anyone to use to snap photos of their favorite cosplayers. Bring your camera and your cosplayer down to the Dealers Hall and check it out. AOD staff are on hand to answer questions, but in general the stage setup is ready-to-go.

Since the booth is in the Dealers Hall, the booth is only open while the Dealers Hall is open. Operates both Saturday and Sunday.
